The Name of Jesus in the Epistles

1 Cor 1:2 The church was those who called on the Name of Jesus.

1 Cor 1:10 Paul appealed to his brethren in the Name of Jesus

1 Cor 5:4  Facing internal church trouble in the Name of Jesus
The erring brother was to be delivered to Satan for the destruction of the flesh
that the spirit might be saved.
That Name had the power of life and death in those days.

1 Cor 6:11  Washed, sanctified, justified in that Name.

Eph 5:20  Giving thanks always for all things in the Name.
Even our praises and our worship cannot go to God direct: they must come in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We can worship and praise Jesus Himself, but when we praise the Father it must be done in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Philippians 2:9-11  At the Name every knee must bow
God has highly exalted the Name in the three worlds.
No Name is so great. no Name has so many glories attached to it as the Name of Jesus.

The name has become so great from the time He was called Jesus by instruction sent through the angel Gabriel, that today every time someone dates a letter he acknowledges the birth of Jesus, as he writes 2011 A.D. or 2011 C.E. (Anno Domini or Christian Era).

Col 3:17  Whatsoever ye do do all in the Name …
Not just worship to the Father, but all things must be done in that Name.

2 Thes 1:11-12  The Name is to be glorified in us, and through our ministry.
How could it be glorified more than by using it as the Early Church used it?

2 Thes 3:6  Paul commands the church in the Name of the Lord.

Heb 13:15  We offer sacrifices of praise as we confess the Name of Jesus.
Public testimony was a confession of that Name.

You can see an example of this in Acts 8. Philip preached the Kingdom of God and the Name of Jesus. They preached the Name, they heralded the power, might and wonder of that Name. They suffered for the Name. They filled Jerusalem and Samaria with that Name.

James 2:7 calls that Name honorable.
The Name was looked upon with honor, respect and love.
Jams 5:14  The sick were anointed in that Name for their healing.

1 Peter 4:14  They gladly bore the reproach of that Name.

The Name of Jesus held a position in the front rank of their teaching.
Whenever they entered a heathen village or city, they preached to them that Name as Philip preached it down at Samaria.
They let people know that the Name of Jesus had power to heal the sick, cast out demons, perform miracles and prodigies, that their God was represented i that Name.

1 John 2:12  Sins are forgiven for the sake of that Name.

1 John 3:23 We are commanded to believe the Name (the proposition “in” is not in the Greek).
We should believe the Name, believe it for what it stands, believe it for all that it means in the heart of the Father.

What does the Name of Jesus mean in your life?

1 John 5:13 We have eternal life by believing ON the Name.
We have power for service by believing IN the Name.
Our position as believers in Christ gives us the legal right to pray in the Name of Jesus and take out of that Name the wealth of love, and riches, and grace, and salvation, and redemption that belongs to us.

The teachings in the epistles reveal what Jesus meant when He gave the great promise of the use of His Name.

The Name of Jesus became the center around which everything was builded in their missionary activities. They lived, worked, and praised in that Name.
That Name meant food and clothing and shelter, it meant deliverance from the hand of their enemies, it meant power over demons and diseases, it meant worship, and praise and access to God.
