Matthew 6 verse 33

Matthew 6:33  But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Jesus has clearly told us two things to focus on:

  1. Expandng His Kingdom to the lost

  2. Walking in His righteousness, as befits citizens of the Kingdom.

Many are guilty of trying to figure out how to take care of their “things” like provision, and they lose focus of the reason they are in the Kingdom. If we seek first to expand His Kingdom then God will provide all the “things” and provisions. Not the other way around.

Many times I hear that so-and-so saved and “stashed away” for their retirement and now that they have retired they can give all their time to the work of God without having to work for a living any more.

How fallacious! All it takes is one recession for savings to be wiped out! And what if there’s a disease epidemic, or a flood, or an earthquake? Of what use are savings then? Jesus said, “Don’t lay up for yourselves treasures on earth.” (Matthew 6:19.)

We read these verses and pass lightly over them. We don’t really believe them, even when they were spoken by the One Who is the Word of God!

When we are reminded of the example of Georg Mueller, we think, “O, it worked in those days! These are days when money makes the world go round, and even makes the work of the Kingdom go round. How can you hire a hall to conduct meetings without money?”

God is not dependent on Mammon to make the world go round!

He said, “You can’t serve God and Mammon!” (Matthew 6:24. Luke 16:13.)

We can’t serve Mammon even to make the work of the Kingdom go round!
